A few "loose" items

It strikes me as odd that the folks over in Dubai feel perfectly fine building the worlds tallest building. Kind of makes me wonder if they know that it will be safe? For those who are not familiar with Dubai...it is on the Arab Peninsula between Saudi Arabia and Oman. They just happen to be sitting on a bit of oil. I hear and have nothing better to do with out money than build crazy things...like a ski resort in the middle of the desert!!

Onto a separate topic...apparently there is a lady suing Victoria's Secret because she was injured while trying on a thong...no kidding. Ok, technically it was a "low-rise V-String". I can only hope that this will not result in a widespread recall of all non-granny panties. The world would be an even more hostile place without something to keep all the guys occupied!

Fathers Day - Part 2

Friday continued with a small Father's Day event at Payton's class. This time there is no video. We were all holding hands which made operating the camera a bit of an impossibility. You did not miss much though...basically it was the teacher blaring the Barney "I Love You" song in Spanish...and the teachers singing while the kiddos just looked around and the fathers looked at the other fathers wondering what the heck we were supposed to do.....priceless! They did make mini-slate presents with their footprint on them. Payton was very proud of it and told me many times that she made that with her foot. Payton also got a few hugs in with Gray before the whole thing ended.

Then on Sunday (unofficially Father's Day part 3) we opened gifts on the couch. My gifts this year were: a pack of 1500 zip ties and a new wallet. Jen gave me quite a scare with the wallet. She printed out a picture of some designer brand one that was $355. I looked at her like...noooo you did not. She laughed and said she would never waste that much money on me. What a good wife!

Father's Day - Part 1

Today was part 1 of father's day at Home Two Montessori. Kade's class performed a couple of songs for all the fathers and then handed out a surprise gift. All the kiddos made a "framed" painting of their fathers. You can see the ones for JT and myself in the opening photos. On the back of the paintings the kids described their fathers...here is how my list went:

Tomorrow I get to go back for Payton's class....can't wait to see that one. Enjoy the show!

One more thing...

Payton counted from 1 to 10 in both English and Spanish tonight. That is all...carry on.

Me and My Cellphone - 1

A little while after arriving in CR I got a new cellphone which actually has a camera....a slightly crappy camera with lots of quality issues...but it does ok in a pinch. It is an HTC Touch which to be honest is probably not worth the money (sometimes gets locked up, it is Windows based after all)....it is a good thing I didn't have to fork out the dough for it...the company did. Anyway, the point is that I actually have a camera with me when I am driving my car. So I started keeping it at the ready when cruising around CR just so I can snap some of those things that you do not tend to see in the states. As such, I will be starting a new series called "Me and My Cellphone" to share those special and uniquely CR moments with everyone else...hope you enjoy.

The first picture is a fairly typical scene from my morning commute. Since there is a LOT of rain in CR...the drainage ditches along the side of the road can be very deep. Quite often along the main highways they are as deep as 3 to 4 feet - without any barriers. As you can imagine...that is simply way too irresistible for the knuckleheads to stay away from. Ahh, There is nothing like a big rig stuck in the drainage to snarl up the morning commute something fierce.
